William Collins b: abt 1833
Between 1881 and 1891, the family lived at 79 Middle Brook Street, Winchester. By 1891, only their daughter Fanny was still living there with her parents. The 1881 census shows that Williams mother-in-law, Mary Trimmer, a widow, was living with the family. His wife's maiden name is therefore assumed to be Trimmer, but this needs to be confirmed by other research. The census entries for the family demonstrate how unreliable census age information can be. In 1881, William's age was given as 48 but ten years later he was said to be 65! His wife, Elizabeth, on the other hand, was said to be 45 in 1881 and 57 in 1891. Their daughter Fanny's age on the census records is probably more accurate; 8 in 1881 and 19 in 1891. 1881 census entry for 79 Middle Brook Street

Edwin Collins b: abt 1869
Elizabeth Bulpett (Bulpit) was born in Lower Brook Street, Winchester on 18 August 1869. At that time her father James Bulpett was a fish dealer. Her mother, Louisa, maiden name was Dray. We believe her mother died during the 1870's. In 1881, Elizabeth Bulpett was living in the same street as Edwin Collins. This was one street away from where she was born. Edith's father was a bricklayer's labourer when she was born and a builder when she married Alfred.
